FIFA Executive Committee member Theo Zwanziger has told Sport Bildthat the 2022 World Cup will be moved from Qatar, saying: "I personally think that in the end the 2022 World Cup will not take place in Qatar.

"Medics say that they cannot accept responsibility with a World Cup taking place under these conditions."

The World Cup organisers have insisted that their staging of the World Cup will be viable thanks to special cooling systems in the stadiums, but Zwanziger doesn't believe that will be enough to allow them to keep the tournament, saying:

"They may be able to cool the stadiums but a World Cup does not take place only there.

"Fans from around the world will be coming and travelling in this heat and the first life-threatening case will trigger an investigation by a state prosecutor. That is not something that FIFA Exco members want to answer for."

There has been talk of moving the tournament to the European winter for around a year now, as the summer's temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius will drop to a more acceptable 20-25 degrees.

However, league chiefs from around Europe have slammed these plans as disruptive and unnecessary.

The tournament has also been overshadowed by allegations of corruption, which organisers strenuously deny, and the poor treatment of migrant workers tasked with building the stadiums - some of them dying.
